Contest Information

With seven  great ways to get in on the fun, the Coyote Melon Festival  truly does offer  something for everyone!

With a Chili Cook-Off, Coyote Melon Art  Contest, Horseshoe Pitching Tournament, Nugget Shooting Derby, Coyote Melon Mountain and the  Melon Launching Event to choose from, all you have to do is pick your poison! And this year there is the new Treasure Hunt

In this, the 4th year of the Chili Cook-Off competition,  the contest will be bigger than ever! Join us as the Ken & Judy Kemper  defend their hard won title as  Chili   champs! With the prize now $200, thanks to the "double or nothing" challenge from the Kempers, the competition will be lively! Entry fee is $25.

Winners of last year's Coyote Melon Launching, Team Melephant will be defending last year's record  of 1100" with another great invention. Put together your best "no holds barred" launching rig and see how far your machine can throw a green Coyote Melon!! (Please, no explosives!!) In addition, there will be a division  for non-mechanical launching, and a youth bracket. Put your melon in the bulls eye and win a t-shirt!! Entry fee is $10.

The Coyote Melon Art Competition  is drawing more amazing entries every year and this year will be no exception. Put your imagination to the test and come up with an entry of your own. Entry fee is $1.00 for adults, free for children.

Coyote Melon Mountain:

Guess how many gourds are in the mountain and win a $20 gift card to View Video! No entry fee! No entry fee!

The Horseshoe Pitching Tournament, which offers cash prizes,  will be a "Round Robin" format, with handicapping. Prizes total 70% of the entry fees. Entry fee is $10 per person.

The Nugget Shooting Derby will offer  silver coins and nuggets as prizes, with a  Grand Prize of trophy and gold nugget  for the hunter with the greatest total find for the day.("Nugget Shooting" is searching for gold using a metal detector.)  This competition draws the best in the sport. With the coveted gold nugget prizes in hot demand and the search field 10,000 square feet, this event is no place for the faint of heart. Entry fee is $35.00

Wnat to try your luck with your metal detector but don't want to work too hard? Then our new Treasure Hunt is just the event for you! Contestants will have a fixed amount of time to search the field for buried treasure! Just the right challenge for the week-end aficianado. Entry fee is $25.
